The Radio Teleswitch Service will be closing down which means your meter will lose functionality. This means we need to get you switched over to a new meter as soon as possible. 

What is the Radio Teleswitch Service? 

The Radio Teleswitch Service, or RTS for short, support older models or more complex meter set ups. These types of meters require radio signals to perform functions which are relayed via RTS. 

The service will be closing down which means these meters will lose functionality. But not to worry, we will be contacting all customers who we have identified with these types of meters to book in an appointment for a new meter.

When is the service shutting down? 

The RTS Signal will begin to be phased out from 30 June because the equipment is at the end of its operational life.

What to do if you have an RTS meter? 

We have identified all customers with this type of meter and we will be in contact to organise a replacement.  All customers will be contacted prior to their meter being switched off.  The best way to avoid disruption remains to book a meter replacement as soon as possible.

Due to high demand, appointments are being booked up quickly, and so customers should get in touch as soon as possible.  Due to the phased approach, customers with an appointment post 30 June 2025 need not worry as meters should retain their functions.  We will proactively reach out to any customer approaching their planned shut down date.

What will replace the RTS meter?

You will be upgraded to a Smart Meter which will automatically send readings to us and you'll be given a in-home display to track your energy usage and spend throughout the day. 

A smart meter will give you a similar service to your RTS meter.  The off peak timings will be set to 00:30 - 07:30 GMT which may be a little different to what you have now.

How can I tell if I have an RTS meter? 

There are a few giveaways that should tell you if you have an RTS meter, they will usually look like these two below: 

There are other types of meter that may look slightly different to these, but in this case, you will be able to tell if you have a Radio Teleswitch sticker somewhere on the meter. 

What benefits will I get from a smart meter? 

Smart meters have revolutionised the energy industry. You won't need to submit meter readings as they send them to us automatically. 

Your bills will be more accurate as you will be charged based on the amount you actually use. 

You will receive an In-Home Display (IHD) that will help you monitor your energy throughout the day so you can make more informed decisions about your energy usage and see how much your energy is costing in real-time.
